Through this project, Luigi was able to tie his Engineering and Theatre education together by performing finite element analysis on a dead-hung electric to determine the safety factor for every component of this rigging scenario. He wrote code in MATLAB using the material properties of the batton to predict the forces, moments, and deflections at any point along the batton.
